While living in Hawaii, I visited several hotels and stayed in two. One of which was the Waikiki Marriott. Often featured on shows such as, Wheel of Fortune, this hotel is a great place.

The hotel was affordable and welcoming. The spa is a great place to unwind and relax, after working out in the fitness center, and the pool is perfect for hanging out and listening to some Hawaiian or favorite tunes. Especially if swimming at night.
The resort has several restaurants, and D.K. Steakhouse is a must eat at place. Come dressed nice or come casual, but leave satisfied and happy. It is only open in the evening, and try to sit by the windows or on the terrace to view the spectacular Waikiki sunset. Whether ordering seafood, steak, or just an appetizer and drinks, it's all good.
Other places to eat include: Sensei seafood and sushi bar (also featuring Karaoke, which is great entertainment after 10), Arancino di Mare (Italian food), Kuhio Beach Grill, and the poolside Terrace. The poolside Terrace is a wonderful place to go for fun songs, drinks, good poolside food, and to make song requests. Kuhio Grill offers a nightly buffet, but we ate there for breakfast and it was fantastic. The omlets are totally worth splurging on, as well as the waffles and pancakes (then go work it off in the fitness center or by swimming and walking everywhere).
While visiting check out the shops. There is a really awesome shop with koa wood necklaces, and other authentic Hawaiian souvenirs (can't remember the name). When shopping in Hawaii, looking for authentic Hawaiian souvenirs, always check to see where the product is made. It's just a bit more fun to buy it and really know it was made in Hawaii and no where else.
There are other jewelry, clothes, and specialty shops. Also, take time to read about the history of Hawaii along the walls of the Arcade.
While there, ask about tours and specials that may be offered. The staff is extremely helpful. There are also surfing classes, scuba diving and water sports, Hawaiian craft courses and cultural events, and of course, hula.
